Year 9 Closure Wednesday 28 January 2026

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Year 9 Closure Wednesday 28 January 26

Thank you for your patience as we have managed the weather difficulties of today. We have been looking ahead and want to share the plans that we have put in place for the coming days.

We have numerous challenges. The first is the weather. There has been flooding in many different areas of our catchment and this has presented difficulties for staff. This morning some staff had journeys of nearly two hours to get here. Some staff cannot get out of their homes because they are flooded in. We hope that the flood waters will recede but there are more warnings of rain across the week and we do not know if that will make matters worse.

We have some staff who are unwell. Whilst we hope that they will return, we cannot be certain of this. We have been told by all supply agencies that we use that there are no more available staff beyond those that we have already booked. Then there is the further unknown of staff that might call in unwell.

As a result of all these factors, we have reluctantly taken the decision to close the school for Year 9 only tomorrow (Wednesday 28th). We have tried to avoid the GCSE year groups. The school will be open as normal for all other year groups.

We are reviewing the situation but wanted to share that unless things improve, we will close the school for Year 8 only on Thursday 29th. This hopefully gives families of students in Year 8 a little more notice to make arrangements. We will only take this decision if we feel that we have no alternative and will update you in the early afternoon on Wednesday.

Year 9 students can access remote learning. Details will be sent to Parent/Carers of Year 9 students separately.

I fully appreciate the challenges that this decision will create for families and I am sorry. We have considered a range of alternative solutions and with many unknowns it seems better to give you as much notice as possible.

We will continue to update our website and social media pages over the coming days as well as Bromcom messages.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best wishes,

John Eddy

Headteacher.
