School closure notification Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June 2026

Dear Parents/ Carers,

I am writing to inform you that, due to the current period of exceptionally high temperatures and the red weather warning issued by the met office, the school will be closing on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June, re-opening on Friday 26 June 2026 in order to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff.

We have taken this decision following careful consideration, as high indoor temperatures can make learning difficult and pose health risks, particularly for younger children and anyone with underlying health conditions. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.

The students have been very good today and we will run the school as normal tomorrow. We have an additional water station outside at break times and the hall is open at break and lunch as a larger inside space for students to access. We have said that students can wear PE kit tomorrow or continue to wear uniform without ties. Please can you make sure that they come to school with water bottles, a hat and sunscreen.

We will be asking teaching staff to set some tasks on class charts for students to complete whilst they are not in school. Year 10 exams on Wednesday will be rescheduled and we will confirm the revised date in the coming days. The planned exams on Friday will take place as planned.

Sports day was planned for this week on Thursday but we have also taken the decision to postpone this until later in the term. We will confirm the revised date nearer the time.

The Trust has been very supportive throughout this process, and this is a Trust-wide decision that aligns with decisions taken by other local schools. The change from an Amber to a Red Weather Warning has been a significant factor in our decision-making for both students and staff.

Keeping Children Safe and Cool at Home

During this period of hot weather, we recommend the following steps to help keep your child comfortable and safe:

· Stay hydrated: Encourage your child to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

· Keep indoors during peak heat: Avoid outdoor activities between 11am and 3pm where possible.

· Create a cool environment: Keep curtains/blinds closed in sunny rooms and open windows in the early morning or evening to allow cooler air to circulate.

· Dress appropriately: Loose, light-coloured clothing is best in hot weather.

· Use sunscreen: Apply a high-factor sunscreen if your child is outside, and reapply regularly.

· Rest and quiet activities: Encourage calm indoor activities to prevent overheating.

We would ask parents and carers to familiarise themselves with the Sun Safety Slides which will be shared with students and can be accessed here

Please also remain vigilant for signs of heat-related illness, such as headaches, dizziness, or unusual tiredness, and seek medical advice if needed.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing students return to school on Friday morning.

Yours sincerely

John Eddy
