At Key Stage 3 (Year 7, 8 & 9), our students develop their mathematical skills covering the topics of Number, Algebra, Ratio & Proportion, Shape & Space and Handling Data. Students are set from Year 8. This allows students to work at the most appropriate pace whilst ensuring that work can be set at a level that suitably challenges all. Setting arrangements are regularly reviewed.
At Key Stage 4 (Year 10 & 11), students prepare for AQA GCSE Mathematics.
In year 10 and 11 students have the option of studying EdExcel GCSE Statistics and AQA Level 2 Further Maths.
Staff are committed to inspiring and motivating their students and the subject is presented in a wide variety of ways including the use of technology. We look for opportunities to extend our more able students and arrange various activities including involvement in the UKMT challenges and similar challenges run by local schools. We regularly recommend students for the Exeter Maths School courses and we currently run Axiom masterclasses for some of our most able year 7 mathematicians. To increase the confidence and understanding of our students we offer lunch time Mathematics support.
